CINEMA DS X IDFA: Trapped in the City of a Thousand Mountains
+ At Midnight Plays a Dance Tune + Q&A
Cinema DS and the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam present three film nights at De School on April 10th, 17th and 24th. In these documentaries, city nightlife forms the backdrop for young protagonists in search of extremes. Wandering, fleeing, or fighting; against themselves or against the system. In Amsterdam, Paris, Chongqing, and Rio de Janeiro they lose themselves in adventure. Each time with a different ending, but the question of how it all started is actually much more exciting. Trapped in the City of a Thousand Mountains:
In Trapped in the City of a Thousand Mountains, David Verbeek guides you through Chongqing at night, where a new generation of rappers fights to express themselves under tight state censorship. At Midnight Plays a Dance Tune + Q&A:
When Roy Seerden's mother dies, all hell breaks loose. Sex, drugs, nightly wanderings: life as a concentrated ball of energy, sadness, and detachment. At Midnight Plays a Dance Tune is Seerden's graduation film at the Film Academy, and was screened at IDFA and the Netherlands Film Festival. A Q&A with Seerden will follow the screening.
