On the 29th of July, De School will be Amsterdam West’s departure point for the Pride Walk. Afterwards there will be talks, art performances, a football tournament and a barbecue.

De School will serve as Amsterdam West’s departure point for the Pride Walk. LTS, ROC, Sexmatters, Stadsdeel West and other parties will join us in the march from Nieuw West towards Amsterdam’s Homomonument, towards Dam Square and the Vondelpark for a huge get-together and the 2017 Pride Week kick-off. Everyone can join.

Subsequently, we’ll march back to De School, where we’ve invited Tofik Dibi, Yassine Laoikili and Taira Miguel to spark discussions on topics such as love, diversity and what it means to truly be oneself. Please note: the talks are in Dutch.

‘Can’t Tell If I’m Grieving or Laughing’ – an exhibition by Australian artist Carly Rose Bedford will be on display at Het Kunstlokaal during the Amsterdam Pride Week from July 29 until August 6. On the 29th there will also be performances with the work.

All this will take place under a De School Pride flag, which will wave from a 50-foot flag post throughout the Dutch Pride Week, as De School shows its colours to its visitors and neighbours.

In addition to the walking, talking and arts, there will be a football tournament hosted by Het Gymlokaal – the gym that is located inside De School. The teams that will compete consist of a diverse selection of players, ranging from deejays, gym regulars, club visitors, neighbours and school kids. Afterwards there will be a barbecue at the terrace next to De School’s café, and everyone is invited to join.
