James Friley's Idiot Glee offers more than just some nice melodies and tender words. Especially in his latest self-titled album Idiot Glee, which came out in January via HOP HOP, he shows himself pensive and playful at the same time. Driven by melancholia, verses and gracefully layered instrumentals take turns. The album contains more than one love song, for Friley wrote most of it while dating his lover (in the meantime his wife) and artist Holly Schulz. However, instead of cheesy recollections it's the atmosphere of late nights and early mornings that linger after the listen. Support for the night will come from energetic Glasgow-based Franco-Scottish duo Happy Meals.
